Lonza is establishing a strategic biomanufacturing base in China using GE Healthcare Solutions. With the new facility, Lonza is responding to growing demand for a high-quality CDMO in the Chinese market.

Key responsibilities:

• To perform hands-on laboratory work in the cell line and upstream process development team contributing to the development of processes suitable for technology transfer to the cGMP manufacturing teams. An understanding of cGMP manufacturing facility constraints and their impact on development activities will be developed.
• Contribute to process validation / characterisation activities by performing supporting laboratory scale studies, employing DoE methodologies.
• Interpret analytical data provided by the analytical team to define subsequent steps.
• Deliver high quality communication to ensure an outstanding customer experience (written reports, teleconferences, face-to-face meetings).
• Working as part of a site and global project team, co-ordinate multiple projects and ensure timely delivery of project workstages.
• Mammalian cell culture processes include: Cell Line Development (routine cell culture, FACS); Process Development (ambr15 miniturised bioreactors, 10L laboratory scale bioreactors); Process Characterisation (ambr250 miniturised bioreactors, 10L laboratory scale bioreactors).
• To work to the highest scientific standards under the direction of the Line Manager.
• To communicate project updates to internal and external customers.
• To contribute to the efficient running of the department including instigating and delivering operational efficiency projects.
• Contribute to departmental safety and training programmes as required.

Key requirements:

• PhD in a relevant Science field or Equivalent.
• Understanding of the theory and application of recombinant protein expression using mammalian cell culture systems.
• Understanding of cGMP regulations.
• Good problem solving, analytical and teamworking skills.
• Good communication skills (verbal and written).
• Accept weekend working on a rota based system, guarantee at least 3 working days every week
